What are the advantages of the DELE exam?

Obtaining the DELE certificate serves you in many ways:
  • The DELE qualification is highly considered by universities and employers
  • It is a valuable addition and extra benefit to your gap year experience
  • This is a preliminary thing for many undergraduates and graduate
The DELE certificates are the only officially accredited qualifications published by the Spanish Ministry of Education administered internationally. They are recognized worldwide by private companies, chambers of commerce, private and public education systems. Their use is mainly for educational and professional purposes.
The Instituto Cervantes is responsible for the certificate and performs a series of actions in order to increase international awareness of the DELE certificate. In some countries, the DELE certificates have been adopted by educational authorities, public sector and educational institutions as a supplement to their own evaluation programs.
DELE is ideal for gaining an edge in the job market and to access educational institutions, both in Spain and in more than 90 other countries where these tests are administered.
HEC Paris is an examination center for the passage of DELE. A session is usually proposed in April. Registration fees are paid for any enrolled student.

 

What is the structure of the DELE exam ?

B1, B2, C1, C2 (HEC only tests from level B2 are available)


5 skills are evaluated for each level:

• Reading Comprehension
• Written expression
• Listening
• Grammar and Vocabulary
• Speaking


B2 level

Test 1: Reading
– Reading Comprehension (70 min):
  • Answer 12 multiple choice questions based on 4 texts containing not more than 450 words.
Test 2: Listening
– Listening (with multiple choice questions) (40 min)
  • Answer 12 multiple choice questions based on four recordings.
Test 3: Expression and written interaction
– Writing (80 min). The candidate will write two texts:
  • One will be in the form of a letter, formal or informal, in which the candidate will detail the ideas and arguments in a clear, detailed and well structured way, respecting the peculiarities of the style genre.
  • The second text will appear as an article for a newspaper, a blog or journal.
Test 4: Expression and oral interaction
– Speaking (interview with the jury) (20 min)
  • The next task is a brief monologue consisting of a series of proposals to solve a problem. Two options are then presented to the candidate, he will select a He will prepare.
The applicant must obtain the qualification « Apto » in each group of the same convocation. For graduation, the candidate can get a maximum of 100 points or must obtain at least 70% of correct answers in each group to receive the global qualification « Apto » required to obtain the diploma DELE.

C1 level

Test 1: Reading comprehension and language use
– Reading Comprehension and language use (90 min)
  • The candidate must be able to understand the general idea and specific information in a public or professional context (texts 700-800 words), and choose the correct answer from among several options.
  • He must rebuild the structure and identify relationships between ideas of various long texts (600-700 words), and complete paragraphs with long sentences.
  • It must identify the contents and intentions or views in articles and reports (600-700 words) in academic or professional fields, but also in short texts (100-150 words).
Test 2: Listening comprehension and use of language
– Listening comprehension and use of language (50 min):
  • The candidate must understand the key points and be able to extract specific data from a text, identifying the speaker, his state of mind, feelings and intentions.
Test 3: Listening comprehension, written expression and interaction
– Cross skills – oral comprehension, written expression and interaction (80 min):
  • The candidate will be proposed five exercises in which he will have to identify the main ideas and extract specific information as well as the identity of characters through short monologues, capture their intentions, moods and the main subjects of their remarks by quoting the words and keys and detailed phrases.
He must also complete proposals with phrases and words and select the correct response to different multiple choice questions (three choices).
Test 4: Reading comprehension, oral expression and interaction
– Cross Skills – Reading comprehension, oral expression and interaction (interview with a jury) (20 min and 20 min of preparation)
  • The candidate will be tested on a monologue about a short text and debate about the opinion stated above, take part in a conversation based on the graphic media
The applicant must obtain the qualification « Apto » in each group of the same convocation. For graduation, the candidate can get a maximum of 100 points or must obtain at least 33 points in each group to receive the global qualification « Apto » required to obtain the diploma DELE.

C2 level

Test 1: Use of language, reading comprehension and oral
– Use of the language, Reading Comprehension and Listening (105 min):
  • Answer 9 multiple choice questions based on three texts containing not more than 800 words.
  • Connect 10 sentences
  • Answer 16 multiple choice questions based on four recordings.
Test 2: Reading comprehension, speaking and writing
– Cross Skills – Reading comprehension, listening comprehension and written expression (150 min). 2 written exercises:
  • An email that refers to a subject that is not private
  • A composition.
The two texts must be between 150 and 200 words.
Test 3: Reading comprehension, oral expression and interaction
– Cross Skills – Reading Comprehension and Oral Expression and Interaction (20 min and 30 min of preparation)
  • The task consists of a monologue; the candidate uses the various « basic » items provided to them to develop a formal speech consistent with the examination situation
